The series begins with the creation of a mysterious, immortal white orb cast onto Earth by a nameless entity called The Beholder, whose purpose is to observe and collect information. This orb, later named Fushi, possesses two primary abilities: to take the form of any stimulating thing it encounters (if that thing is deceased), and to regenerate itself after death, making it virtually indestructible.
Fushi begins its existence as a simple rock, then transforms into an injured wolf after the animal dies near it. The wolf’s form leads Fushi to encounter a lonely, unnamed boy in the Arctic. The boy, who mistakenly names the wolf Joaan, becomes the first human Fushi bonds with, teaching “it” the first lessons in loneliness, connection, and empathy. After the boy’s tragic death, Fushi adopts his human form, a default appearance that Fushi uses to navigate the world.
As Fushi travels across vast timelines and different eras, it collects new forms and memories, continually learning what it means to live, love, and feel pain. However, Fushi’s eternal journey is constantly challenged by the Nokkers, mysterious entities that seek to steal Fushi’s core and prevent “it” from completing its objective.
